SPECIAL EDUCATION

Here at Fort Erie Secondary School, we strive to meet the individual needs of all of our students.
From our Special Needs Program, to the Resource Room, to the Intellectually Gifted - we offer a wide range of programs that both support and enhance opportunities for all levels of ability.

In the Program for Students with Special Needs, the students rotate throughout the day between Academics, Life Skills, Physical Education and Vocational Training. Along with these courses, the students also have the opportunity to be integrated into the Cosmetology Class where they get to be pampered and develop an interest in personal care. Students help out with the school’s Breakfast Club by grocery shopping weekly for supplies. The students are also a part of the Special Olympics School Program, which gives them the opportunity to participate in a variety of sport tournaments throughout the school year.

The Resource Room at FESS provides a quiet, inviting space for students to work independently or to receive one-on-one instruction. The Resource teachers prepare Individual Education Plans for all identified and at-risk students, complete the IPRC process and attend all of our feeder schools to ease the transition process for our incoming students. Assessment meetings and In-School Team meetings take place regularly to address both the academic and social needs of our students.
